Coach Cane is the co-founder of City Coach Multisport, and has been coaching endurance athletes for over twenty-five years. He holds a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology and has past or current certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and USA Cycling. Jonathan has coached for JackRabbit Sports since 2004 and coached for Nike from 2002-2014. In addition, he is the co-author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Weight Training and has written for Metro Sports Magazine, NY Runner and Triathlete Magazine. He has been a featured speaker for Nike, New York Road Runners Club, Chelsea Piers Triathlon Club, The Hospital for Special Surgery, and TRIARQ.
Jonathan is a former Cat 3 cyclist and on rare occasions can still be seen competing in multisport events. He lives in the Bronx with his wife, triathlete Nicole Sin Quee (a/k/a Mrs. Coach Cane), and their son Simon.
Christopher is the co-founder of City Coach, and is a world-class endurance athlete. He holds a Guinness World Record for treadmill running (153.76 miles in 24 hours.) He has completed The Triple Iron Man, a 7.2-mile swim, 336-mile bike, followed by a 78.6-mile run (done consecutively) in a record breaking time of 38 hours and 46 minutes and won the race three times. He is the author of The Athlete’s Way – Sweat and Biology of Bliss and has directed the triathlon program at Chelsea Piers. He has been featured in dozens of TV, magazine, and newspaper articles including CNN, PBS, ABC, CBS, Fox, Men’s Journal, ESPN magazine, and the L.A. Times.
Currently retired from competition, Christopher remains a consultant to City Coach.

Mark Montgomery has been working with City Coach since 2011.
Mark has been part of the endurance sports industry for over five years. He got his start at JackRabbit Sports and worked his way up to Stores Director. Mark earned USAT, USA Cycling and USATF Coaching Certifications and recently served as Head Coach for our JackRabbit NYC Triathlon program and Assistant Coach for the NYC Marathon program. In addition, he oversees our programming and staffing for our Corporate Fitness programs.
An avid triathlete and runner, some of his favorite races are the Timberman Half Ironman, the New York City Marathon and the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler in D.C.
Kai, former Captain with Harlem Run has joined the City Coach coaching staff. He started running in elementary school earning his first medal as the district champion in the 800 meter. He continued stay active throughout his school years and now he is working to qualify for the Boston Marathon.
As a RCAA certified running coach and an experienced community leader, he will bring his experience and knowledge from working running communities including runners of all levels and open up City Coach to even a broader range of runners. Kai also oversees all running programs for our Corporate Fitness division.
Rachel is a RRCA Certified Running Coach, a Pre & Post Natal Corrective Exercise Specialist, and wellness enthusiast. A seven-time marathoner, Rachel has also run over 21 half marathons and countless other races, consistently finishing in top 10% of her age group and gender. Less than one year after becoming a mom, she ran a marathon in which she PR'd and also qualified for the Boston Marathon. Rachel is also a New York Road Runner pacer for both full and half marathons, a former head coach for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Moms In Training program, and coach for JackRabbit Sports' training programs and other local running groups. When she doesn't have her running shoes on, Rachel is an event producer, project manager, writer, and artist.
Francis has been active in the New York City running community, since 2008 as a Masters Runner, Mentor and Coach. At present he is a coach in the Jack Rabbit Marathon training program. Before joining the City Coach Multisport coaching staff, he worked for Nike's RunNYC program. His experience includes coaching high school track and field in South Africa.
Francis is a licensed New York State Mathematics teacher, and USATF Level 1, certified coach. He is a competitive masters, track, trail, and road runner and has exceeded the All-American Standards at distances and events from the Mile (4:37) to the Marathon (NYC 2011, 2:41:37), as well as the Decathlon.
Francis is an all round athlete who has competed in triathlons and ultra marathons, including the Comrades Marathon. He has circumnavigated the world in a 41 foot sailboat, and survived playing rugby from the age of 7 to 47.
Cipriana has been part of the City Coach staff since 2013. She started running with Coach Cane in 2011 and ran her first marathon under his direction. After continuing to run with the team and working for a local running store, there was a natural progression into starting to pace and coach. Cipriana is a triathlete and a 14-time marathoner (qualified for the Boston Marathon with one of her races). In addition to coaching, she's currently training for her 15th marathon and hoping to Boston qualify again.
Cipriana's background is in swimming and she swam competitively from age 3 and through college. Since then, she's made the switch to running, and her primary coaching focus is on endurance and pacing.
Shane has been with City Coach for over ten years. Before that he was an assistant coach with Nike Running and a Running Specialist at Niketown NYC. In addition he oversaw the operation of New York’s first Computrainer studio for City Coach from 2005-2008. Shane is a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach, with experience coaching track and field from elementary to high school.
During his scholastic career, Shane was a competitive sprinter. In addition he is the fastest man in heels, as proven by his two victories at the Regis & Kelly High Heel-a-thon.
Gary Berard is an RRCA and USATF-certified running coach and competitive endurance athlete having competed in countless races. He has recently completed the inaugural Jack Daniels VDOTO2 coaching certification. Whether you’re new to running and looking for someone to help you run your first 5K or an experienced runner looking to better your marathon times – you will be in very professional hands with him.
He is a six-time marathoner with a 2:45:18 personal best and has completed all the US marathon majors (NYC, Boston, Chicago). Gary continues to help lead our JackRabbit Sports NYC Marathon training program and has worked for City Coach since 2008 designing running programs, online, and coaching runners during individual training sessions.
He has been a contributing writer to Runner’s World Magazine, amongst others, and has served as an official NIKE pacer for NYC-area races including the NYC Half Marathon and the Hamptons Marathon. In 2014, he worked as one of our NIKE Pro Elite Services coaches out of the NIKE flagship running store in Manhattan where he led NIKE Run NYC training runs.

Alison was excited to join the City Coach staff in 2015 after being a participant in the 2014 NYC Marathon training program. Her coaches inspired her to take the leap into coaching. Alison has been running since she can remember, the mile run in elementary school was her favorite. Since then, she's had all kinds of relationships with running, finding distance running in college and competitive running after returning to NYC in 2011. Her next running goal is qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
Alison received her RCAA running coach certification in Denver, CO and can't wait to take coaching to the next level. She loves meeting new people through coaching and her favorite racing distance is 13.1.
Robert has over 25 years of coaching and teaching experience and has been associated with such organizations as Asphalt Green, YMCA of USA, American Red Cross and United States Swimming. As an ASCA Level 3 Swim Coach, Robert has trained two generations of age group swimmers to achieve their goals, coaching for organizations such as Asphalt Green, The Flushing YMCA and the Brooklyn Sports Club.
